Today is the last day of 2019.
I’ve always loved this time of year because it allows me to not only reflect on what has been but to also get excited for what might be. I LOVE writing my schedule down and organizing lists and to-dos, so New Year’s is like my Superbowl of Planning. I get to lay out all that I want to accomplish and do throughout the year and of course, START A FRESH NEW PLANNER. (Although, to be honest, I’ll have a new planner come April, when something new catches my eye on Instagram. It’s a sickness, y’all. And I don’t want the cure.)
When it comes to prepping for a new year, I tend create goals for myself as opposed to Making Resolutions. I mean, resolutions are fun, and if that’s your jam, no judgement from me, but I can never stick to resolutions. They are usually in black and white terms– save money, lose weight…you know the drill. I get stressed out because I’ve set myself up for an all or nothing approach and by February I’m yelling, “FINE, IT’S NOTHING!” as I eat my third donut while buying a new planner online.
Goals though, well, goals I can do. I can set a goal, make a plan, check my progress, and achieve whatever I’ve set out to do. Using the Goals Worksheet that I’ve created, I first brain dump about areas of my life I’d like to refocus on for the year, and give each area it’s own category.

For 2020, I have laid out six categories:
- Family
- Fitness
- Money
- Blogging
- Reading
- Secret Project
Under each category, I then breakdown what I want to accomplish in those particular areas of my life.

From there, I print out one new goal sheet per category to layout the steps I need to take to accomplish each goal.
Once those are complete, I can use the steps outlined to create a timeline in my planner for the year.
These sheets have helped me to organize the chaos in my brain and not feel overwhelmed at the thought of Everything That Needs to Be Done in the New Year.
Would you like to use these sheets too? Feel free to download your own copies to prepare for 2020. And if you feel like sharing, please do! Tag me on twitter or instagram and let me know how it’s going!
