⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This book is perfect for those that like: Enemies to Lovers, Forbidden Relationships, and Slow Dances in a Lighthouse.

You might not like this book if you aren’t into: Fantasy, War, or Stories with Abuse.

From Goodreads: A competition for the heart of a magical prince turns dangerous and swoon-worthy in this new Academy romance!

The Velkin are magical. The Velkin are mysterious. The Velkin are dangerous. The Velkin just invited human students into their most prestigious academy for one year. Oh, and I’m one of those students.

Survive. That’s all I want to do this year at the Velkin Royal Academy. But when the King of this magical realm announces that one of the human students will win his son’s hand in marriage this year, as part of a peace treaty with the humans, it soon seems that I’m the leading candidate.

My survival plan just got a lot more complicated. Soon, I’m fighting angry Fae duchesses, werewolves, and my own growing feelings for the handsome, arrogant Prince Anatole.

Magic Exchange is Book One in the Royal Academy of Velkin romance series and it features a handsome prince, danger around every corner, and a strong heroine who will fight for her happily ever after!

Magic Exchange is a new fantasy romance series from author Emmeline Winter and y’all, I read this in two days and I can’t stop thinking about it. This book has everything that I love in a romance: enemies to lovers, forbidden relationships, great chemistry with swoony banter, angst, heartbreak, villains, a quirky best friend – all set on a magical planet named Velkin that is on the brink of war.

Now, I’m not typically a fantasy romance reader, so I am not sure what exactly to look for in these types of books, but I thought this first installment of this series did a pretty good job in world building and setting us up for future storylines. The book ended with me truly caring about Velkin and its people and what will happen to them next. Which leads me to my only complaint about the book…

That it ended where it did! I NEED MORE.

I mean, I get that it’s a series and things have to be laid out in those terms but I wasn’t ready for it to end in the way that it did. No spoilers but- what is happening with Anatole? How did Adric do what he did? Where is everyone else? Are there any double agents working in this whole thing?! GAHHHH.

Obviously, the main thing that I want is for more Anatole and Carolyn. Their journey from Enemies to More was perfection and I’m dying to see what comes next in their story. Oh, and Anatole? Yeah, he’s not only the Jerk Who Gets Feelings (FAVORITE) but he’s also a man who values Consent (YOU LOVE TO SEE IT). SWOON.

That’s not to say that the “B” love storyline isn’t also high on my list of What is Happening next?? That relationship is forbidden and everything about them up to this point was delicious and can they have their own book? Or at least spin-off novella, please and thank you.

Overall, if you are a fan of Hate to Love, with a Dash of Destiny, then Magic Exchange should be next on your TBR list. That leaves you plenty of time to read this and get ready for the second installment, Magic Captive, set to come out on June 28, 2020– YESSSSS.

My beautiful grandparents. I lost my Grandma on Ea My beautiful grandparents. I lost my Grandma on Easter Sunday this past year and yesterday my Grandpa joined her. It’s been a painful year of loss compounded by the fact that I’m 1,800 miles away and will have attended both their funerals via video streaming. I have no real reason to post this other than I am sad and very much missing them and memories of our times together keep popping up in my brain. Some of the best times of my youth were spent with them and at their house. And I’m posting this because I absolutely love this photo of them and want it in my timeline to look back on and smile. ❤️

The Goodreads Tracker is just something fun to track my goal of 52 books this year, plus a few extra spaces should I get really ambitious. The color coding is for each book’s genre, which I think will be rad to look at once it’s all filled in. 🤓😃
